temperature and dress codes

Hi. Have booked a week beginning 10/25 and never have been to HHI. Was looking for suggestions on what to pack. Is HHI a formal place for dinner or there alot of casual places. Are swimsuits and shorts still in season or should we consider jeans and light jackets. We are the casual kind. Thanks in advance for any help.

Be comfortable. The nights are getting cool now, so be sure to bring layers. Definitely bring your swimsuits and shorts ... We are still getting strong sun!

';Formal'; in the coastal areas of SC usually means khakis and a collared shirt (i.e. golf shirts are fine, but not collarless tee shirts) for men and skirts or trousers for women, as appropriate for the season. Jackets are generally not required for men except in a very few high-end restaurants in Charleston and Savannah. At this time of year, my husband sometimes wears a sport jacket just for warmth, but a nice sweater is fine, too. For a casual place, jeans are fine, although they are not worn as much down here as they are further north. You will not see locals in jeans at a fine restaurant.

kiawahvilla,

Can you give me an idea of temps at this time of year? Are we talking 70-80 daytime and cooler at night? Winds have shifted and are coming down from Canada here and the heat is on. Last week the windows were open and we were in shorts. Gotta love the Fall. Thanks for your help.

Best advice is: Bring layers.

The temps are very hard to predict. Some years we swim in the ocean through Thanksgiving. Other years, we walk around in sweaters and wind breakers.

This week, a cold front has just come through, bringing nightime temps into the mid-forties. This afternoon, temps were into the mid-seventies, but it has felt much warmer in the direct sun. Water temp in the ocean is around 70 degrees. The humidity has been delightfully low.

Meanwhile, a tropical system, forming in the Caribbean, is expected here Friday/Saturday. It will bring higher humidity, so the air will seem warmer, even if it is not.

Your guess is as good as mine! LOL

When I moved here permanently, I changed my wardrobe. I%26#39;m down to 2 suits and a blazer.

I usually don%26#39;t wear a jacket, even when I go to see a show at the Arts center.

Thanks for the good advice. I have been using trip advisor advice and have never been steered wrong. I cannot wait to see HHI for the 1st time.

I%26#39;m sure my husband will be relieved to leave the ';uniform'; at home! LOL.
