Hi,
We are in North Charleston and looking for some authentic bbq. We ate at on of the chain restaurants tonight, and it was really good. But it wasn%26#39;t any different than a good bbq chain in California. I want to find a place that the locals go; a mom-and-pop, homestyle joint that was not meant to cater to the tourists. We like smokey and spicey. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want to take a drive out to John%26#39;s Island, here%26#39;s one...

You could make a real adventure out of it and go visit the Angel Oak, the tea plantation and the winery while you are out that direction.
Have fun!
