Rehearsal Dinner Ideas

My son is getting married in Mt.Pleasan July 11, 2009. I would like suggestions for the rehearsal dinner party. It would be around 70 to a 100 people since we are inviting all out of town guests. We may also have a small band. I would like for it to be fairly informal since the wedding will be in a nice but not too luxurious place. We do not want to outstage the bride. I am familiar with Isle of Palms, Sullivans Island and really like the beach so it could be there. Any suggestions? Thanks, Rain

If you want informal, how %26#39;bout a lowcountry oyster roast or shrimp boil? For that matter, a %26#39;southern comfort'; feast might fit the bill i.e. fried chicken and/or bbq.

I second OGE%26#39;s lowcountry boil idea. Many gorgeous venues in Mt. Pleasant - you didn%26#39;t say where the wedding will be held but Boone Hall Plantation has a covered dock (overlooking the water) http://boonehallplantation.com and select events.

Some of the neighborhood clubhouses have stunning facilities and might be a great place for a party your size...Rivertowne Country Club for one, Hamlin Plantation is nice, Oakland Plantation has events, Alahambra Hall (town of Mt. Pleasant) - many more in Mt. P if those don%26#39;t work out for you. If you want to add Wild Dunes clubhouse, that would be a bit fancier but with an ocean view.

I don%26#39;t know if you can do this, but if you rented a house that allowed you to have a party (help me, anyone who knows if this is ok) you could kill two birds with one stone. Rent a beach house and have the party catered at the house. Some of the beach homes are 11-br homes and if you have a lot of family it might be worth looking in to - it would probably actually be cheaper renting a house for a week than getting lodging and renting a venue. Just a thought.

Sullivan%26#39;s passed a law a while back limiting rentals to 12 people per house and parties to 25, so you%26#39;d have to go to Isle of Palms. Call Island Realty

there%26#39;s also Alhambra Hall in Mt Pleasant. It%26#39;s on the harbor. I don%26#39;t know what the regs are for that but the town of Mt Pleasant can give you information:http://www.townofmountpleasant.com/index.cfm?section=1

You%26#39;re right- you do NOT want to upstage the bride lol!
