I posted a similar question in the Georgia forum, and it was a popular post. Since I spent several years of my youth in the Berea/Greenville area, I thought I would post here as well:
I was recently reminiscing on ';Memory Lane:, and recalled my younger days while living in the Greenville area --- I remember Weiner King and the White Horse Drive-In Theater, which no longer exist. I also remember Kindergarten at The Chrisitan Tabernacle School (which may still be in existence), where my hand was frequently spanked by the Nuns with rulers. I remember picking beans by the bushel (and then shelling them), and a big rail-road track hill, that when you crossed it in a car, you could only see sky out of the windshield (somewhere in greenville, and probably not that big of a hill).
So I was wondering -- what is the best ';old school'; attraction or institution that still exists ? Which attraction or institution do you wish you could bring back ?
Memory Lane ..........................
OK, I%26#39;ll play. Both are no-brainers for me.
In the still-around category, the Beacon drive-in in Spartanburg. This old boy would have starved to death many years ago had it not been for the Beacon. Still can%26#39;t go back to Spartanburg without at least one trip to the Beacon. It%26#39;s a classic.
In the gone but not forgotten category, it can only be the old Pawleys Pavilion, on Pawleys Island, which burned down about 1970. It was not just a place, it was a symbol of a simpler, more innocent time, when kids could have fun without cell phones, video games or guns.
